Giveaway Day - Quilting Kit

Happy Giveaway Day!

For Sew, Mama, Sew's Giveaway Day, I put together this little Quilting Kit:

It includes:

*Scraps from about 50 different fabrics

*2 spools of 100% cotton hand quilting thread

*A measuring tape

*10 quilting needles (Size 10 betweens) in a wooden holder

*An off-hand thimble

*A 12 inch by 14 inch project bag I made with a thrifted sheet, using Betz White's Tutorial

Here's a better view of some of the fabrics. These were culled from my frightfully large scrap box. The scraps range in size from 4 inches by 4 inches up to 10 inches by 26 inches. Most are 100% cotton and most have not been pre-washed.

So how can you win this cute bag of goodies? By leaving a comment answering the following question:

"What was your favorite Halloween costume?"
(It can be a costume you wore or one you made for someone else)
Edited to add: I apologize to international folks for forgetting Halloween is not a world-wide holiday. Just leave a comment about any costume you've enjoyed!)

And what does this have to do with quilting? Sorting my scraps reminded me of a costume my very crafty mom made for me: The Patchwork Girl of Oz. Much to my dismay, none of my classmates knew of this obscure character and assumed I was Raggedy Ann. My mom, being the cool mom that she is, probably foresaw this possibility but still indulged me and put in a lot of effort to make me a costume no one would recognize. Thanks, Mommy!

On June 1, I will select a winner at random from all the comments telling me about a costume left between May 27 and May31. I will also pay for shipping charges (either domestic or international).

Thanks very much to Sew, Mama, Sew for organizing this and be sure to go check out all the other participants here and here!

My favorite Halloween costume was an American Indian outfit made for my youngest daughter two years ago for Native American studies in school. She looked absolutely adorable with her blond pigtails and beaded belt which she made herself. Cute, cute, cute!! Thanks for the memory and the chance to win such a great stash of possibilities!!

My favourite costume was when my mom made me up as Princess Leia and my little bother as R2D2 - I wore a white cloth with a foil-cover belt and my brother wore his R2D2 toy chest with the bottom cut out for his legs! We thought we were some really cool 5 and 7 year olds!

My favortie halloween costumes is actually a set of two -- Barney & Betty Rubble. I made his and hers for my hubby (a real life Barney) and I the year before we got married. We've gotten lots of milage out of them and even more great memories (ours and others)!

My favorite costume was a fairy princess made with a dress and lace coat that my mom had worn in the 60s to her sister's wedding. My girlfriends were jealous of all that turquoise lace I was wearing!

Aloha! What a great giveaway! My favorite halloween costume was one one of my students wore to school last Halloween. He was the joker from Batman and he really looked scary, just like the joker!

I loved being a gum ball machine-- I wore a big clear plastic bag filled with little balloons, poked holes for my arms and legs, with red tights, red beret, red shirt.

My favorite costume I have made was my son's last year. i made him the wold suit that Max wore in Where the Wild Things Are. For what I have worn, it was something my grandmother made for my mom. I am not sure what it was intended to be but when I wore it we said I was Betsy Ross. :)
Thanks for your generosity!

My favorite costume as a child was a simple lion costume...paper plate mask, sweats and a long tail. It was just fun!

Ok, I'm from Aus so we don't have Halloween, but I do love some of the costumes that come through to us on the internet! My favourite all time costume is this one:

You just simply HAVE to go and look! It's worth commenting just for you to see this picture! I OWN one of these animals, a true Aussie boy born and bred, so it's extra fantastic for me! lol Enjoy!

Ooh, I am such a sucker for scraps :)
We don't celebrate Halloween here in Australia, but I do love a good costume party :) My favourite of all was a satin blue princess dress I wore in my early teens to a party, but then I couldn't actually run around and have fun in, d'oh!

I loved and cherished all my handmade halloween costumes my mom made. I have three favs: One year I was the grandmother from little red riding hood (sis was RRhood, bro was the wolf), another is the year I was Glenda the good witch, and my absolute fav was probably the pink panther (I loved pink at the time.) Great giveaway and great question!

My favorite Halloween costume was when I was a dice (die) in the fourth grade. My mom and dad made it from a cardboard box and some black tights and it was great.

My favorite Halloween costume of all time was one my brother wore when he was about 6 years old. A bit of background....he had lovely eyelashes and beautiful eyes. We dressed him as a gypsy fortune teller, in a bright patchwork skirt, babooshka, and gold hoop earrings. He made a beautiful girl and to this day still gets red in the face whenever this costume is mentioned.

Ice Skater ! I wore my ballet leotard, and my rollerblades with tinfoil-covered carboard on the sides. IT was October in Michigan, and it was freezing rain. Froze my tush off and the skates + ice were a poor decision.

My sister and I were crayola crayons and my mom was the coloring book!

We don't really do halloween so much here in Australia, but I remember dressing up as dorothy from the Wizard of Oz one year. Mum painted my shoes red with glitter paint, and made me a blue ginham dress. I carried my Pound Puppy toy for my Toto. I can't wait to make my kids great costumes when they are older.
Thanks for the great giveaway!

My favorite costume was a tiger costume my kids had when they were little. It had a hat with ears and a big long stuff tail. It was awesome! It was hand made but I didn't make it because I didn't know how to sew then.

My favorite costume was a gumball machine. I wore a red turtleneck, red skirt, red tights, and then poked my neck and arms through a clear plastic garbage bag, and filled that bag with little colored balloons. It was ridiculous, but funny. Thanks for the chance to win!

What an awesome giveaway. I really love Halloween costumes. I mean, really. But not the gory kind. I made a monkey costume for my boy, so I made Tarzan and Jane costumes for my husband and me for the family theme thing. It was awesome. Another year we were all Toy Story characters: Two Woodys and a Jessie. We've reused the costumes a couple times, too. You can see them here. (But I don't think you can see the Tarzan costumes 'cuz I went over on my Flickr 200 photo quota.)

When I was young, my family never really celebrated halloween--more of a family movie night for us... though we did do an occasional "church dress up night" of which the one I remember most was my mom throwing together "Methuselah" the oldest man mentioned in the Bible... nothing like a young girl dressed in pillow stuffing (long beard), brown robe, and eyeliner (drawn on wrinkles)!

Another amazing giveaway! Thank you for the opportunity! My favorite costume was my first costume made entirely by me. I was Cyndi Lauper. My mother was so offended that I didn't want her to make a costume for me anymore. But I was so proud of my autonomy. Some day my little girl will do the same to me, I'm certain.

Great giveaway - I often wished growing up that we had halloween here as I love dressing up. I have however been to many themed parties with my favourite being gangster/1920's flapper.

We don't have real halloween here, but sometimes someone gives a costume party, and once a friend went as Medusa, and it was really great :)
Thanks for the giveaway!

Oh wow! Do I ever love your giveaway!! My favorite costume wasn't really a fancy sewing job; I was an old man, and my sister was my old wife. We were dressed as homeless old people. I'll never forget what the fortune teller (just pretend) told me at the little kids' party I attended: "You'll get old before your time." That haunted me for years! Shame on her for scaring a little kid. i think I'm over it now. :)
